  1. Pull the leather stopper to create a loop large enough to fit over your dog’s head.
  2. Position the loop right under your dog’s jawline. Then, push the stopper down the lead to make the loop small enough so it cannot be pulled off over the dog’s head.
  3. Ensure the loop is snug under the jawline, but not so tight that it causes choking when your dog is in a neutral position.
  4. When walking your dog, the lead should remain under the jawline. This allows you to gently tug upwards to prevent your dog from walking ahead of you.
This setup provides accurate feedback from your hand through the lead to your dog, allowing you to stop or slow your dog with minimal effort. Once your dog has learned to walk calmly, the position of the slip-lead is less important.

For cleaning:
Wash by hand or in a delicates bag with a gentle detergent. Depending on the detergent you use, some colour may run. This is normal due to the natural dyes used.

*Please note: the leather stopper will become more malleable with use.

Our Story

As the owner of a truly sensitive, allergy-prone dog, I made it my mission to improve his quality of life by altering his environment.
I researched and studied as much as I could and came to the (now) very obvious conclusion that natural is always best!
After years of battling a myriad of random illnesses, my dog is back to being 100% healthy, and this is my wish for you and your dog!

FAQ's

How is this slip-lead comfortable?

Through R&D and testing of lots of other slip-leads, we think we've created the most comfortable slip-lead for both dog and human. The rope (being round) sits more naturally against your dog's skin and in your hand. We have used hemp for its hypoallergenic properties and chose to have the naturally dyed to prevent any reactions to dying chemicals, as well as for its little negative effects on the environment. The design is minimal to ensure your dog only needs to wear minimal fabric, reducing skin friction.

Why don't you sell a harness version?

Many studies have proven that harnesses always product some level of tension, thereby producing some level of movement restriction. As avid believers in natural movement, and Canine Myotherapy and Biomechanics, we cannot sell a product (harnesses) that impede natural movement. Harnesses also have multiple contact points on the dogs body, mostly on areas where there is thinner skin, which can cause significant friction in allergy-prone and/or sensitive dogs. We prefer the use of simple flat collars and leads or slip-leads. Both option have minimal contact with the dog but provide accurate feedback for training a relaxed loose-lead walk.

My dog chokes and pulls me when I walk them. What can I do?

It all comes down to training and using the right tools. A slip-lead is a well-known training tool that provides accurate feedback between dog and handler, however, it must be used correctly for the best results. Check out the "How to use it" section and if you need more help, feel free to contact us or a local balanced dog trainer for more specific help.

Can I use this slip-lead even if I have a Brachiocephalic (squished nose) dog?

Any dog can safely use a slip-lead provided they have been taught "pressure and release" and to walk on a loose-lead. The slip-lead provides the least amount of contact with the dog and we consider it to be incredibly safe for Brachi dogs who need to keep their airways as unrestricted as possible, especially during exercise. If your dog pulls a lot and/or chokes themselves, we highly recommend contacting a local balanced dog trainer for help with loose-lead walking.

I heard slip-leads were cruel to use, is this true?

Firstly, any training tool used in the wrong way could be considered "cruel". When used correctly, a slip-lead provides the most effective communication between you and your dog with the least amount of contact points. When positioned correctly, up under the jawline, there is no pressure on important throat structures like the Trachea. Due to the efficacy of communication, you do not need to apply a lot of effort to ask your dog to stop or slow down. For very strong dogs, or those who have never been taught to walk on a loose-lead, we highly recommend contacting your local balanced dog trainer for more specific help.
